After ten years of doing their thing, not even a pandemic that stopped the world could stop DYT as the choir became virtual and raised over £9,000 with their music videos for “NHS Charities Together”, “Mind”, “The Christie Charity” and “Acting for Others”.
The story of “The Do Your Thing Virtual Choir” in lockdown quickly became of great interest to the media. Weeks into the pandemic, Liz Taylor, founder and MD of DYT, was invited to appear on BBC Breakfast to discuss their very first music video “Proud” raising over £3,500 for “NHS Charities Together”. The choir’s fundraising efforts regularly featured on BBC Radio Manchester’s “Make a Difference” campaign, and 2020 ended with a very special Zoom call with Gary Barlow, who recognised the efforts of Liz and the choir and told them – “You’re doing a brilliant thing and never stop!”.
Now after 18 months of being isolated but together, the choir is back and ready to take Gary Barlow’s advice! Looking towards their tenth anniversary, DYT is ready to do its thing in Stockport and Ashton when their community choir, DYT, and the children’s choir, DYT:KC, resume in September!
There are still surprises in store from “the choir with heart” so watch this space!
