Six months ago I had never even heard of MSA. Thankfully, it is an incredibly rare disease that affects only 5 in every 100,000 people. My Dad, however, was one of those 5 and he sadly passed away in April this year because of this very cruel disease.
Over lockdown Do Your Thing, our community choir, raised more than £10K for various charities including The Associated NHS Charities, MIND and The Christie Charity by creating music videos from our homes. As the founder and Musical Director of DYT, I was so proud to feel we were still making a difference in the most challenging circumstances. Even though we couldn’t be together, we could still connect and we did! People flocked to support our efforts and, to this day, I am blown away by their generosity.
For over a decade, DYT has helped support many local and national charities. It is one of the great privileges we have, helping others by doing what we love – singing together. Many of our choir members have had personal connections with the charities we have helped support over the years and that list now extends to The MSA Trust and to me personally.
The MSA Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing specialist support to all those affected by MSA. They rely entirely on voluntary donations. We really hope that our upcoming performances will help raise a lot of money for this charity and the incredibly important work that they do.
Thank you for your support and generosity.
