Do Your Thing
Today marks the day 11 years ago when my dream of having a community choir in the Heatons was realised. What started out with 7 members venturing out on a bitterly cold evening to sing, now has become over 50 members turning up saying “only choir would make me come out on a night like this!”Our non-audition choir has had quite a journey over that time. From our regular local performances supporting our Stockport community at Heaton Moor Park, Nook, The Moor Top, St Winifred’s school, Broadstone Mill, the Griffin, The Crown (to name a few) to some unexpected twists and turns along the way… lockdown! Our performances have taken us to grand theatre stages, supporting Brit award-winning acts, have cameo roles in TV shows like “Through the keyhole”, sing on a Christmas ad for Sainsburys to most recently being a surprise choir for a lady at Age Uk which was the lead story on BBC Breakfast on Christmas Day! 🥰We were proudly named “the choir with heart” by BBC Dementia Choir’s MD Mark De-Lisser and were featured in the “Make a difference” campaign for BBC Radio Manchester during lockdown, where our fundraising music videos raised over £10,000. We feel very lucky to be able to help others by doing what we love and over the years have now raised well over £20,000 for many charities including The Christie, DEC Ukraine Appeal, Mind and the NSPCC.What makes our choir special and growing year on year, is that community is at the heart of what we do. As a collective we love sharing our passion for singing with as many as we can. Having been in lockdown for so long, not being able to be in the room, we now appreciate more then ever those spine tingling moments when voices blend, friendships form and “choir therapy” that members refer to, happens when our members leave any worries and concerns at the door and have some time just for them singing great songs with great people!Thank you from the bottom of my heart to family and friends and of course all our members, past and present who have made DYT the wonderful choir that it is today. Happy birthday 11th birthday Stockport DYT! 💜🎉💜 ... See MoreSee Less

Common queries & questions

All you need to do is click the “Book a DYT taster” / “Book a Kids Choir taster / Book a Youth Choir taster” button at the top of the page!

No. The only requirement is that you love to sing!

If you love singing, you’re welcome – fact! Liz’s years of professional vocal coaching have enabled this non-audition choir to not only surprise themselves but audiences alike.

No. You don’t have to read sheet music. Once you are a member, you can go to the members area of the DYT website where you can access all relevant materials you need to learn your songs.

We tend to sing the sort of feel-good songs that people love to sing along to on the radio. These are generally pop classics and can include songs from films and musicals.

Your first taster session is completely free! If you’d like to become a part of the Do Your Thing choir, then it costs £32.50 per month for the Do Your Thing choir!

For our Kids choir, the price is £20.00 per month, and or our Youth choir, the price is £24.00 per month, with sibling discounts available for both our kids & youth choir should you have more than one child in attendance!

Although performing is not compulsory, showcasing to an audience what the choir have enjoyed learning in rehearsal is the highlight for most of our choir members. They refer to the “buzz” they get after a gig that lasts for days!

Only your voice and some water!
